your good deed for the day

Just wanted to give a last-minute call for help. Ali Edwards has a 6 degrees badge (Kevin Bacon’s project) on her blog in support of Autism Speaks that is currently in first place (narrowly beating out Clay Aiken’s badge) and needs your donations by midnight on March 31st to win. As I understand, it’s the number of donations that counts (one per person, minimum of $10), so to contribute go here. Thanks in advance, and have a beautiful weekend!

what this feeling is all about

Woah, check me out posting more than one photo! The top image was for Friday's Flickr Fix. This one's getting a lot of comments and favorites. The tattoo photo was just made private, I’m so glad I grabbed it!

Nika spent the night and we made paper mache hot air balloons (holy crap its messy! And they werent kidding when they said they had to dry overnight). Then she printed out a bunch of South Park people and took them on tours in the balloons. She’s so creative!

Hope you’re having a wonderful weekend!

the wind and the rain brings back words of a song

Have a few links I wanted to share:

The fascinating PostSecret blog (from the amazing book. Coincidently they're currently on tour and stopping by ISU on April 5th), the new eco-blog Sew Green, the gorgeous music of Juana Molina (similar to Jose Gonzalez, but female and Spanish. Ha, I bet you thought Jose was Spanish, didn't you. Nope, Swedish), Elsie is on flickr! And she added me as a contact and commented on one of my pics! (in case you didn't know, she's pretty famous in the scrapbooking world) I used to feel she overdid it with the cutesy and exclamation marks, but she's growing on me. Plus I'm really craving color these days, and if she's anything it's colorful.

The photo above is a Sabrina Ward Harrison book/journal I altered (got the spine sliced off, added some blank pages and envelopes and had it bound, glued on the elastic to keep it shut). Hopefully it'll encourage me to be more messy/less "perfect" in my art.

i can snatch a little purity

So I make these "road mix" cd's to listen to in the car and I'm really enjoying the most recent one (forgive me if these are trendy. I'm so amazingly out of the loop, the only radio I ever listen to is NPR):

Phantom Limb (the Shins), War on Sound (Moonbabies), Dreams (Fleetwood Mac), Tour de Carte (Science of Sleep sdtk), Heartbeats (Jose Gonzalez), Yellowcake (Kaki King), Send Someone Away (Embee featuring Jose Gonzalez), Don't F**k With Love (the Sad Little Stars), Blackbird (Beatles), We Will Become Silhouettes (the Postal Service), Put Your Records On (Corinne Bailey Rae), Don't Shoot the Ranger (Moonbabies), They'll Soon Discover (Shins), AC/DC (Stuart Davis), Fly Me Away (Goldfrapp), The Book I Write (Spoon)

(I was going to link to each of the songs, but just go to iTunes and listen to them. And don't get me started if you don't have itunes, it's free people!!!)

ps - the photo is for Friday's Flickr Fix: 1. pink poppy pins 2. et tirer les rideau

when the sky is starless

I really want to start making more artsy stuff and less assembly line stuff, so here's a piece I just made (the photo is my great grandma Sosie). Kris and I are going to be the featured artists in May at the Octagon Shop, so my goal is to have a bunch of stuff done by then.

i don't shine if you don't shine

Got an armful of ridiculously inexpensive goodies at my favorite thrift shop yesterday (including this tin for $.50): Sister Act in Ellsworth (1/2 hour north of Ames). They do this thing where anything that's been there for more than 2 months is half price, so there's always fun new stuff. Love it.

So I was going to attempt to have more than one photo in this post, but it's not happening and my resident geek isn't here, so I might just have to do a few posts today(!).

heartbeats

I created this dyptich yesterday (out of my Flickr favorites) for Ez's new Friday's Flickr Fix group. 1. 4 green bottles 2. meu coracao

My friend Kris finally put a few of her gorgeous vintage reconstructed goods up on Etsy (hopefully lots more to come!). Matt's plane did actually make it in last night (5 hours late but what can you do). He's home for 5 whole days, woohoo! I'm off to enjoy this sunny Saturday, have a beautiful weekend!
