esther's box inside

i only made two presents this winter (my attempt to have relaxed holidays, as they should be), 8x8x2" wood boxes covered with photos of my sisters weddings (yes two of my sisters got married this year!) with mini photo albums inside. (they’re inspired by donna downey’s book photo decor.) i thought they turned out pretty nice (ok i almost cried at the post office. if only my boxes, i mean sisters lived closer…). click the photo to see more pictures

some of my favorite lyrics, from Dar Williams’ song The Christians and the Pagans: we love trees, we love the snow, the friends we have, the world we share, and you find magic from your god, and we find magic everywhere. hope everyone is having beautiful, magical holidays…

made this at my last memory bookmaking class (i was showing how to make fabric books). it makes me smile. (in case you were wondering: muslin stained with walnut ink, stamped in black with the wood grain and the bird. i drew in the branch, cut out the leaves and talk bubble, stamped the words. the heart is a stamp i carved from a wine cork. the lighter spots are where i shook water off my hands after washing paint off them. i kind of like the effect though.)
